State Regent’s Message – May 2013

Dear California Daughters –

This month’s message is being written as your state regent travels to the Missouri State Conference. The schedule looks like a lot of fun, and I am excited to visit the Missouri State Headquarters, an 1890s mansion in Boonville, Missouri. Check out this website for a photo and article about this beautiful property:  http://www.missourilife.com/travel/roslyn-heights/ .  In March, this officer attended the Georgia State Conference. It was interesting and enjoyable to attend their annual meeting. Georgia also has an historic state headquarters you might find interesting. It is one of the oldest homes in Georgia:  http://historicmeadowgarden.org/.

Many of you attended our State Headquarters open house and “first-ever” barbeque this past weekend. It was great to have National Parliamentarian Carole Belcher visit from her new home in Texas, and to greet Honorary State Regent Karon Jarrard. Both were dressed in their finest western wear! This officer has received dozens of emails from attendees regarding how much they enjoyed the food, the fun, and the great weather. Thank you to the Headquarters Administrative Committee for all of its work to make this such a successful event. We plan to have another event next spring, so keep your eyes peeled for the announcement.

This officer cannot thank you enough for the many invitations to attend your meetings and events. Your gracious hospitality has been greatly appreciated during the first year of this administration. I have loved your thoughtful gifts, greeting cards, bee articles and comics, bee photos and videos. Your generous donations to the State Regent’s Project will enable the State Society to make a sizeable donation to the UC Davis Laidlaw Bee Research Facility later this month, and will also enable the State Society to re-carpet the upstairs bedrooms and back hallway of our historic California State Headquarters this summer. Thank you so much for your contributions!

Finally, the state board thanks and commends chapters and districts for their diligence to properly manage DAR business, and we also thank those in leadership positions for mentoring and providing training to members. Keep up the GREAT work and continue to…

Bee Inspired and Take Flight!

Deb
