Bakersfield Chapter held a baby shower in April for the military families stationed at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake receiving assistance through Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS).

NMCRS provides need-based financial assistance and other services to members of the Naval Services of the United States,  their eligible family members and survivors. NMCRS offers financial counseling, no-interest loans, grants, various support services, as well as referrals to other community-based resources when available at no fee to the families. The society, operating in partnership with the Navy and Marine Corps, administers nearly 250 offices ashore and afloat at Navy and Marine Corps bases around the world.

The donations by Bakersfield Chapter members will help replenish the society’s stock of much needed goods for newborns and toddlers. Members donated over $1300 in merchandise.  Gift certificates, diapers, wipes, layette items, various sized infant and toddler clothing, toys, and bedtime story books were collected. Several members made beautiful hand-knit sweaters and blankets.

The April 2013 military baby shower was a fun activity with games and all the warm and fuzzy feelings we get from these types of events… but the real warm and fuzzy feeling came when we realized how generous the chapter was and who will benefit from the generosity.
