Josefa Higuera Livermore Chapter Donates Three Scholarships

Kathy Chase, Kellie Garcia, one of the recipients,
Pat Moore, Regent

On March 21, 2013, Regent Pat Moore, Kathy Chase, and Cara Donovan had the privilege of attending an event in Livermore, sponsored by the Las Positas College Veterans First program. Its entire focus was on the experiences of six women veterans from WWII to the present. These ladies served as a panel to answer questions about their military experiences fro why they joined, to how they were able to return to civilian life after experiencing war. The moderator was Lindsey Sin, a Navy veteran, who is California’s Deputy Secretary for Women Veterans Affairs. She spoke about the challenges we, as a society, face in ensuring proper support gets to all our veterans. At the conclusion of the program the chapter presented three $500.00 scholarships. Upon hearing about our chapter’s original donation of two scholarships, PG&E donated $1,000.00 for two more. Since there were five applicants our chapter members donated another $500.00 for the fifth applicant to also receive a scholarship.
