Announcement: American Heritage Committee – America 250! Quilt Project Results

Thank you to the fifteen chapters who submitted entries to represent California in the American Heritage Committee’s America 250! Quilt Project. Our three judges, State Regent Susan Broderick, an experienced non-DAR quilt judge, and myself, were very impressed by the creativity exhibited by our members. After much deliberation, we selected the design which we believed best fulfilled the cited criteria and submitted it to the National America 250! Quilt Project Chair for approval.

That approval has since been received and I am pleased to offer congratulations to the Chico Chapter and its design team: Grace Franke, Colleen Lazzaretto, Michele Lehane, Carol Palmer, Shirley Prestesater, and Dorothy Welton. Their finished block will be stitched together with those from other states and Units Overseas to create a beautiful, giant quilt which will be displayed at our national headquarters and travel to America 250! celebrations.

The other submitted designs were so impressive, the American Heritage Committee has decided to use them to create a State-level project for display at semiquincentennial commemorations in California. The incoming California State American Heritage Chair will contact the chapters in the future with information about this new project.

Thank you to all the teams who have offered to share their time and talent with this Committee.

With gratitude,

Deborah McMenamin
American Heritage State Chair
