State Regent’s Projects

Information and updates about the State Regent’s Projects will periodically be published in the California Clarion. In conjunction with Phase 1 of the State Regent’s Projects – to support honey bee research – the State Regent will be attending a meeting at UC Davis in early September with Dr. Eric Mussen, Extension Apiculturist, to learn more about the Harry Laidlaw Jr. Bee Research Facility and the research being conducted.  Dr. Mussen is the liaison between the academic world of apiculture (beekeeping) and the practical world of beekeeping and pollination.  Also attending this meeting will be Brian Liggett, a beekeeper from Fresno, California. Mr. Liggett will be guest speaker at the CSSDAR September 2012 Council meetings.

In mid-September, the State Board of Directors will tour the UC Davis Harry Laidlaw Jr. Bee Research Facility. The board is excited about touring the Häagen-Dazs Honey Bee Haven, a half acre bee-friendly garden next to the research facility, made possible by a large grant from Häagen-Dazs. This garden provides a three-season food supply for honey bees, and is an educational tool for schools and the public.
