State Regent’s Message: October 2022

Greetings, California Daughters!

The DAR year has begun, and September is in the books. We celebrated Constitution Day and chapter meetings are underway!

I hope you were able to attend one of the Fall Council Meetings! Friday afternoon workshops were presented by members of the CDRC – the Chapter Development and Revitalization Commission. The commission – under the leadership of the CDRC chair – includes the State Organizing Secretary, the State Registrar, as well as the chairs of the Membership Committee, SAT – State Application Team, Volunteer Genealogist Committee, and Lineage Research. They focused on how to grow your chapter membership not only by welcoming new members, but also by retaining your current members.

The theme for the Friday night Social was “Honoring Our Veterans”! The parade of floats was outstanding! After the parade, we learned a bit about Honor Flights and what they mean to our Veterans. We wrote notes to be delivered to the Veterans on upcoming Honor Flights – during “Mail Call” on the flight home. In the South, two World War II Veterans shared their personal Honor Flight experiences, and in the North, we heard from a Korean War Veteran – all amazing men – and we thanked them for their service.

Raising funds to send Veterans on Honor Flights is just one of the State Regent Projects for the Maas Administration. Another is Penny Pines – a project to raise funds to plant acres of seedlings that will grow to replace trees lost during the California Wildfires. Each $68 donation will allow one acre of seedlings to be planted!

The third State Regent Project will raise funds to purchase much needed equipment for the California Firefighters battling the Wildfires. At Northern Council, the Fire Chief of the El Dorado Hills Fire Department shared information about the California Fire Service, and how we can help. District Meetings are scheduled for October, and I encourage you to attend! These meetings offer and opportunity to learn – and make new friends!

The Heritage Tea will be held on November 5th in Fair Oaks, CA. The theme is “Heritage Quilts!”. Registration is now available through the WebStore. Look for the flyer on the CSSDAR members website. Hope to see many of you there!

As you attend chapter meetings, district meetings, or State events, please remember that old Girl Scout song – “Make new friends but keep the old – one is Silver and the other Gold” – as we continue to Grow Together in Friendship and Service to God, Home, and Country!

Thank you for your support!
