State Regent’s Message – December 2021

Dear California Daughters,

The end of another year is upon us and there is much to be thankful for. California Daughters are active, engaged, and together again!!

November brought Daughters from all over the state to our Heritage Tea, enjoying the beautiful setting filled with origami cranes, the theme of State Chaplain Christine McMahan’s wonderful presentation “1,000 Cranes.” 145 Daughters filled the room with smiles, laughter, and conversation as they enjoyed the afternoon together.

Chapters celebrated in person with local veterans honoring them with Veterans Day luncheons and events. They held moving commemorations and planted and dedicated Never Forget Gardens for the Centennial of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, renewing our commitment to never forget those who have served or are serving our great nation.

We celebrated history and conservation as 25 Daughters hiked the steep trail with State Historian Sherrie Stein and De Anza Daughters in San Diego to re-dedicate the Torrey Pines Historical Marker placed on November 13, 1971 by State Regent Marian Kaump.

Thank you to the chapters and Daughters who sent birthday wishes to this Regent. Each brought joy as you shared wishes for a great day and upcoming year. I am blessed and so very thankful for your friendship and good wishes!

This Regent, the CSSDAR Executive Board, and our Headquarters Committee look forward to welcoming our Daughters on December 11, to our House Beautiful in Glendora for the annual Victorian Christmas Tea. This year, during the Tea, we will dedicate the placement of our first America 250 Patriot Marker and Patriot Garden with the help of America 250 Co-Chairs Becky Malmo and Penny Sander. Be sure to register on the webstore and plan to be there! This is always a special time to visit your Headquarters, beautifully decorated for the holidays and to share the blessings of friends old and new.

Hopefully, all chapter treasurers have submitted chapter national and state dues renewals postmarked by Dec. 1st. This is critical for all chapters, as voting credentials for chapter delegates attending State Conference and Continental Congress are dependent on chapter dues being postmarked by this date. Thank you to all who made additional efforts to reach out to retain your members – sometimes that extra effort to reach out can make all the difference in
members staying engaged. Their renewals truly help support your chapter programs and NSDAR programs. We continue to hope for 100% participation in electronic dues submission, as it truly makes dues collection simpler and faster not only for submission, but for faster receipt and documentation by National. State Treasurer Christina Ramos is available and happy to help those chapters who have not registered.

Dec 18 will see many chapters across our state participate in Wreaths Across America. DAR is one of the largest supporters of this program, again, honoring our commitment to never forget. Remember, Honor, and Teach by participating in a Wreaths Across America ceremony near you. Last, but by no means least, please make sure to document your Service to America hours. Let’s really capture all those hours you have been serving!!!

Dear Daughters, most importantly, during this month of peace and goodwill, make time to Move for your Mind. Rest, recharge, and spend time with loved ones. We know how valuable that time is. Catch up with dear friends, and savor the sights, sounds, and joys of this precious holiday season. Enjoy those cookies and holiday treats!

Wishing you all the merriest of holidays!

With much DAR love and appreciation,
Susan
