Outstanding Teacher of American History and Essay Winners

The Antelope Valley chapter has named Sacred Heart School’s Mrs. Brummer as their Outstanding Teacher of American History.

In addition, four of Mrs. Brummer’s students have won an essay contest sponsored by the NSDAR. Two of those students-sixth grader Mmeli Ugochuk and seventh grader Hailey Heildel, have also won at the district level and are now competing at the state level.

“We’re always very proud of our students and our faculty member, Mrs. Brummer, for being selected by the NSDAR. This is an honor,” said Sacred Heart Principal Dave Schatz.

This year’s essay topic was “Forgotten Patriots Who Supported the American Struggle for Independence.”

All winners received a cash award and certificates acknowledging their accomplishments. The winners were presented their certificates at a luncheon served by members of the Antelope Valley chapter on Saturday, February 2, at the Palmdale Elks Lodge.

Two local newspapers as well as the local broadcasting station Channel 3 covered the event.
