Jose Maria Amador Holds Annual Awards Ceremony

Jose Maria Amador Chapter held its student awards event at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 9, at the Pleasant View Church of Christ, Pleasanton.

American History Essay Contest chairmen Phyllis Houghton, Judy Herrera, and Nancy Villarreal named the three first-place winners:  Windemere Ranch Middle School sixth-grader Amanda Yang, Harvest Park Middle School seventh-grader Stacy Shimanuki, and Wells Middle School eighth-grader Alexandra Stassinopoulos.  Each received $100.00 award from the chapter.

Chairman Laurie Robertson presented the chapter and District IV winner, Valley Christian High School senior Olivia Coackley, with a $500.00 award from the chapter.

Chairman Carole Vercellino presented the Christopher Columbus Essay Award to chapter and District IV winner, Dougherty Valley High School 10th-grader Augustine Chemparathy.  He received a $100.00 award from the chapter.

U.S. Congressman Eric Swalwell personally handed the winners recognition certificates.
