Chapter Chatter: Santa Clara Chapter “Welcomes Home” Vietnam Vets

On Saturday March 26, 2022, chapter members attended a morning meeting in Redwood City to honor a group of Vietnam Veterans. We brought in breakfast sandwiches, coffee and fruit, plus some delectables to take home.

On Monday MARCH 28th we attended a lunch meeting in Cupertino of the Vietnam Veterans of America where they were treated to lunch by Julie DeMaria, Santa Clara Chapter member and founder of Operation: Care and comfort.

Regent Nancy Hughes spoke to both groups about how they were initially treated when they returned stateside, and honored each one with a Veterans button, a Vietnam lapel pin and a handshake with a “Welcome Home” greeting. Both groups were given goody bags filled with lots of swag, compliments of Operation: Care and Comfort.

Upon being given their gifts, many of the gentlemen offered a few words on their service, and what it meant to them to finally be “welcomed home.” They were touched, as we were to be able to show respect for their service. Julie and Nancy received the following email yesterday from one of the gentlemen in attendance:

“Words will never be sufficient to express my personal gratitude and the chapter gratitude for your generous gifts, thoughts, time and lunch yesterday.
Such an honor and the group was talking about it throughout the meeting, so it was obvious you impacted this group of seasoned veterans. A warm thanks to the both of you and your group of volunteers for your thoughtfulness.”
