Chapter Chatter: Rise and Shine with SCV’s Hottest Plants!

Santa Clarita Valley’s Alliklik Chapter has a new booklet to encourage members to plant Sunshine Gardens in-ground and in containers. Prepared by Elise Leithauser of Alliklik Chapter’s Conservation Committee, “Rise and Shine with SCV’s Hottest Plants!” challenges chapter members to plant Sunshine Gardens of native plants to promote healthy habitats for bees and other pollinators, consistent with the mission of the DAR Conservation Committee.

“Rise and Shine with SCV’s Hottest Plants!” identifies heat tolerant and native plants suitable for California inland areas, like the Santa Clarita Valley. Creating “Monarch Butterfly Way Stations” and Bluebird nesting boxes are other healthy habitat suggestions. Companion resource links aid chapter members find sources for native plants and conservation ideas.
