Chapter Chatter: Mt. Diablo Chapter Honors DAR Good Citizens and American History Essay Winners

On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, the Mt. Diablo Chapter met via Zoom to recognize the 2021-2022 sixth grade winner of the American History Essay contest, and three high school seniors as their DAR Good Citizens winners.

Andrew Lin, sixth grader who is homeschooled, read his American History essay on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Andrew won Mt. Diablo’s chapter award and was also the winner of the District IV award. He received a monetary award from both the Chapter and District IV.

Michelle Chen (photo) was our first-place winner of the DAR Good Citizens award and essay contest. She read her essay aloud at the ceremony. Michelle is a senior at Monte Vista High School. She was introduced by her counselor Kristin Tegeler. The runners up were Stephanie W. from California High School, introduced by her counselor Kathryn Nichols, and Olivia Relucio from San Ramon Valley High School, introduced by her counselor Melissa Bergstedt. The winners received a monetary scholarship award, a certificate of recognition, a DAR pin and a flag that had been flown over the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC.

The Mt. Diablo Daughters congratulated these outstanding students and wished them well in the future endeavors.
