Chapter Chatter: Don Jose de Ortega Chapter Delivers Donations to Haven Hills Domestic Abuse Center

The Don Jose de Ortega Chapter recently put together a donation package for Haven Hills Domestic Abuse Center. Haven Hills has provided safety and support to survivors of domestic violence since 1977. They offer shelter, crisis intervention, counseling and advocacy to over 2,500 women and men to help break the cycle of abuse and build a new, productive and positive life for themselves and their children. Haven Hills holds a special place in the hearts of the Don Jose de Ortega members. We enthusiastically support them in every way we can.

We collected new clothes, cosmetics, classroom supplies and food. From our Annual Barnes & Noble Bookfair, we purchased many new books. Generous chapter and local community members donated very gently used books. A total of 130 books filled eight grocery bags!

On July 29, 2020, Regent Linda Hodgkinson and 1st Vice Regent Jane Belmont met at a drop off for Haven Hills. We proudly and very happily delivered the books and items on behalf of our Don Jose de Ortega Chapter. The manager was thrilled and was very appreciative of our chapter. She described how special a “real” book was in the hands of a child. It was very touching to hear this. That’s what it’s all about.
