Announcement: Outstanding Teacher of American History Contest

The Outstanding Teacher of American History Contest honors notable full-time teachers of history (and related fields such as social studies, government, and citizenship education) in public, private, and parochial schools, grades 5-12.

This contest is a great way for chapters to recognize and publicize outstanding history teachers in your communities.

Current instructions and application for nominating a teacher for this annual contest are on the Historian Page of the California Members only website or can be accessed from the following link:

American History Information Packet & Form

Please read the instructions carefully and provide all information including the endorsement letter by the sponsoring DAR chapter.

The State winner will be honored at the State Conference in March and will receive a monetary award.

The deadline for the State Historian receive the chapter winner’s dossier is October 30, 2022. Please send the dossier with ample time to meet this deadline.

The original dossier plus three (3) copies of the dossier, must be sent to the State Historian’s at her home address, NOT the State headquarters in Glendora.

Please see that your chapter winner’s entry with all required items and copies are mailed to :

The State Historian arranges for two (2) non DAR judges and one (1) DAR judge to select the state winner.

If the State Historian doesn’t receive a total of four (4) items (1 original and 3 copies) at her home by the deadline of October 30, 2022, the dossier will not be included in the judging for the state-level competition.

Chapters may obtain a free chapter winner certificate from the office of the Historian General. Remember, this is a great way to promote education and honor a local teacher at the same time.

I look forward to seeing all the submissions.
