Announcement: Foster Children heART Box Project

CALLING ALL DAUGHTERS, CHAPTERS, AND DISTRICTS!

The Spring 2021 Community Classroom Foster Child heART Project launches now!

Who
One community in our California Community Classroom we sometimes overlook are the 83,00 students presently in foster care. The family upheaval experienced by these children often leads to difficulties in their developmental growth and educational achievement. We are working with CASA (Court Ordered Special Advocates) to distribute these heART kits to foster children across the California.

Why
They, like all students, benefit from access to the creative arts. Yet, few foster children have access to simple art projects or art supplies of their own. And, for foster children, art has been shown to be instrumental in helping them cope with an unsettling personal world and succeed in school. Just the ability to express inner feelings through art can be the start of a personal renaissance.

What
Art kits, information, and personal projects are available on the CSSDAR website at the following link (after login):

The heART flyer-which details what can go into a heART box and timetable. The new Community Classroom logo-designed to adorn your heART boxes to express the gift that is heART. More details on the “why” of the project. Three art projects geared to reinforce the idea to these children that they are indeed valued: the “Our Flag” and the “Who Are “We The People”” projects.

Where and When
Individual members, chapters, and districts are encouraged to work together to bring the heART Project to life. Two drop off points have been arranged for both North and South: the Pleasant View Church of Christ in Pleasanton and State Headquarters in Glendora. Drop off weekend is April 23 and 24th. Please see the heART flyer for more details. Let us deliver that message of hope and love through art to our foster children community!
