Announcement: CSSDAR Library Book Club – THE BEANTOWN GIRLS

The August selection for the California Library Book Club will be The Beantown Girls by Jane Healey.

The Beantown Girls tells the little-known story of the women who volunteered to be Red Cross ‘Clubmobile Girls,’ serving on the front lines of World War Two as they provided soldiers with coffee, doughnuts, and the comfort of home. Fiona, Dottie, and Viv hardly know what to expect once their training begins, but they will be pushed to their limits as they discover courage they didn’t know they had and the importance of friendship”. The Beantown Girls is based on diaries, letters, and other records left by real-life Clubmobile Service girls.

There will be two opportunities to discuss the book with other California DAR members virtually. The first discussion will be on Wednesday, August 18th at 10:00 a.m. and the second meeting at 7:00 p.m. Sign up for your choice of meeting times by emailing this officer.
