State Regent’s Message: September 2022

Greetings, California Daughters!

How exciting it was to return to Washington, DC in June – after two long years – and be a part of the 131st Continental Congress – in person! With the installation of our new President General (and your new State Regent) there was much to celebrate. Being in DC for the 4th of July was an added thrill! In addition, many chapters have elected new officers, so there is a great deal of change to absorb.

The summer months have been a time of preparation and planning. Over 200 Committee Chairs, Co-Chairs, and Vice Chairs were appointed by this officer. Please visit the CSSDAR Members’ Website to learn about their plans – and note important due dates.

Many thanks to our VIS Team – led by Jo Olson – for creating a new look for our Members’ Website (Karen Kurtz and Kathy Watson), for making all the necessary updates to the forms (Michelle Field), for updating all the names on the Officer and Committee webpages (Jo Olson), for making the changes needed to ensure that Announcements go out to every member (Sharon Garrison), and for handling all the questions that come to the Help Desk – especially during these times of change (Linda Unrue)!! Please explore the CSSDAR Members’ Website and discover how much information is available to you – the California Daughters – through this magnificent repository of information.

Fall Council Meetings are just around the corner – Southern Council September 9-10 and Northern Council September 23-24! It will be a great opportunity to “meet new friends, but keep the old”. Come and hear about Honor Flights – and learn how you can get involved! Participate in the parade of chapters. The theme this year is “Honoring our Veterans”. Does your chapter have an entry? Hear what each of your CSSDAR Officers has been doing – and what is planned. Constitution Day will be commemorated, and several workshops will be held. Of course there will be shopping and committee information available in the Exhibit Room. All the details can be found in the “Call to Council” – one for South, and one for North – available on the website. I hope to see you there!

Now is the time to mark your calendars for upcoming CSSDAR events! You will find a new link on the front page of the website that will take you to a one-page schedule of all CSSDAR Events for 2022-2023 – complete with dates, times, and places. Next up: Heritage Tea on November 5th.

As you begin your DAR year, please keep in mind the motto of this administration – “Continuous Growth!” Our goal over the next two years is to increase our Membership, but that is not possible by simply gaining new members. We must also work toward retaining the members we have! Encourage each other to welcome new members, develop new friendships, rekindle old friendships, and “Work together, in Friendship and Service, for God, Home, and Country”.

In much appreciation for all that you do,
Sharon Mass
State Regent
