State Regent’s Message: October 2014

Carole-FrameDear California Daughters,

Autumn is here, along with the first State Regent message of the Jackson Administration.  For all of you, it is also the beginning of the new DAR year as chapters ramp up after all of the summer planning.

Our September Councils, both north and south, were very successful, beginning with our Friday night Star Spangled Celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner.  The Saturday morning workshops were jam-packed.  And our luncheon speakers brought us inspiring information on the mysterious ways that music therapy can help with dementia patients and veterans with PTSD.

During the reports, this officer promised to bring more information on “phishing,” one of the latest of the email scams.  Receive an email from people you do not know asking that you provide a link from your chapter website to theirs?  Don’t answer it!  It’s phishing!  These emails are sent blindly to countless recipients. The “phisher” counts on some believing it is legitimate, and, in your chapter’s case, this could potentially lead to your website being hijacked.  Don’t take the bait!  This also fits in with our advice about non-affiliation and circularization.

Receive an email from info@californiadar.org?  Don’t answer it!  This email address does not exist in our system!  It’s “phishing.”

What is the best response?  Simply hit the “delete” key.  Do not “unsubscribe.”  In these cases, that only confirms to a scammer that yours is a legitimate email address.

The integrity of DAR is at stake.  Please be careful.

Phishing–don’t phall phor it!
