Martin Severance Pounds the Pavement in Pasadena

Martin Severance Chapter participated in the 2012 Pasadena Marathon to raise money for the Chapter’s Centennial. Participants raised over $1,000 by asking friends to sponsor them in this community event.  Held annually, the race offers a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K, bike tour, and even two kid’s runs. This year the organizers teamed with a local historic preservation group, Pasadena Heritage, to present “Running with History,”  highlighting 26 historic sites along the course.

State Librarian Donna Riegel joined in the 5K race on May 20th.  Phyllis Lynes led  the team and finished in First Place for her age category!   Other team members were Adina Roberts, Carole Curran, Kay Carmicino (on two brand new knee replacements), Francine Smith, Laura Huntley, Nancy Friedman, Stacy Bisel and Barbie Blake.  The team also included a prospective member and two HODARs! Everyone completed the race at their own pace and received medals at the finish line.
