VISITING THE DAR MUSEUM AND MEMORIAL CONTINENTAL HALL

CURRENT EXHIBIT – “Remembering the American Revolution 1776 to 1890”. This exhibit complements the NSDAR’s 125th Anniversary and runs through September 3, 2016.  The exhibit tells the story of how generations of Americans from 1776 to 1890 kept the memory of the Revolution alive in both public and private ways. The Museum Gallery is located on the first floor of Memorial Continental Hall. If you can’t visit in person check out the highlights from the exhibit online at www.dar.org/museum/

“RETRO ROOMS” is a building-wide exhibition created by the DAR Museum to honor NSDAR’s 125th Anniversary.  Through 34 interpretive panels, visitors will peek into the early 20th century when Memorial Continental Hall was new.  Rare archival photographs are paired with insightful text to illustrate the buildings early days.  The exhibit runs through July 9, 2016 , located throughout Memorial Continental Hall.

PERIOD ROOMS – DAR Memorial Continental Hall houses 31 Period Rooms, historically inspired scenes which display pieces from the DAR Museum collection. The Period Rooms now have new labels. Each label introduces you to the room, its time period, and something interesting about it. For more information about specific objects, you can read the accompanying booklet. The Period Rooms are spread throughout all four floors of Memorial Continental Hall.

SPECIAL DISPLAY AT DAR MUSEUM MAY 26 – JULY 9 – On the night of July 4, 1776, Philadelphia printer John Dunlap produced about 200 copies of the newly adopted Declaration of Independence. Today, only 26 of these Dunlap Broadsides survive, and one will be on display at the DAR Museum for a limited time. This very special exhibit is part of the DAR Museum’s exhibition “Remembering the American Revolution: 1776-1890”. The Broadside, as well as two draft copies of the U.S. Constitution, both of which include handwritten notes, will be provided on loan from the American Independence Museum in Exeter, New Hampshire, which is operated in partnership with the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of New Hampshire. These rare documents will be on exhibit in the Museum Gallery located on the first floor of Memorial Continental Hall.

DAR MUSEUM SHOP – is located at the entrance of the Exhibit Gallery. The shop supports the Museum’s mission by offering books, replica folk toys, quilt and sampler patterns, porcelain wares, and gifts inspired by the Museum’s collection and exhibits. The Museum Shop currently has a new 76 page, soft cover “Remembering the American Revolution” book which features select objects from the current exhibit.
