Elijah-Jose Herrera, Scholarship recipient and Judy Bradshaw presenting the monetary award and certificate for Scholarship Chairman Nancy Taylor who was unable to attend the meeting and luncheon.

Elijah-Jose Herrera, a 2013 graduate of Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest, is the recipient of Panamint Springs $500 scholarship. He will be attending Cerro Coso Community College in Ridgecrest and will transfer to UCLA where he plans to attend film school. Elijah-Jose read his excellent essay on being an American although he wasn’t born in the United States. He wrote how his grandfather is his inspiration of how a loyal American lives and supports his country. His grandfather volunteered for the U.S. Army as a Mexican National during the Vietnam War and became an American citizen in 1984. Grandfather Jose Herrera and Elijah-Jose’s aunt Nell attended the presentation.
