Chapter Chatter: Veterans Honored at the Myrtle Grove Memorial Cemetery

On Monday, May 30, 2016, members of the Redwood Forest Chapter, NSDAR and guests from Del Norte Chapter gathered to honor and pay their respects to the veterans buried at the Myrtle Grove Memorial Cemetery in Eureka. It took months of effort by the City of Eureka to rejuvenate the old cemetery for the Memorial Day weekend.

Flags were placed on the tombstones of 183 veterans buried there, where all but 27 were Civil War veterans. Redwood Forest Chapter members placed a wreath, which was on display through the three-day holiday weekend. In attendance were (L-R): Redwood Forest Chapter Chaplain, Joan Tempas; Redwood Forest Chapter Regent, Debbie Coles; Ginger Campbell; Redwood Forest Chapter Recording Secretary, Christina Strevey; Doris London; Melissa Brisso; Catherine Mace; Sue Cook; Redwood Forest Chapter Vice Regent Jean Lynch; District III Director, CSSDAR, Wendy Malone; Redwood Forest Chapter Librarian, Judy Aronoff; and Del Norte Chapter Regent, Christine Long.
