Chapter Chatter: Santa Margarita Chapter Celebrates Constitution Week

Oceanside’s Santa Margarita Chapter, continues to sparkle. Celebrating Constitution Week took many forms.

Posters went up for Constitution Week at local libraries and businesses. Chapter Regent, Jacqueline Berzins, accepted Proclamations from the Cities of Carlsbad and Oceanside and spoke to the audience, both those in attendance and via TV, about the importance of the Constitution. Honorary Chapter Regent, Wanda Prosser, invited all to join at the Mission for bell ringing on September 17th at 1pm.

The September 17th chapter meeting found Sarah Towne-di Cicco, Martin Severance Chapter, speaking about the Articles of Confederation, the forerunner to the Constitution. Chapter members then adjourned to the historic Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, King of the Missions, being welcomed by Museum Docent, Helena Hazleton.

VPG Adele Lancaster, a member of the chapter and national chair, Constitution Week Committee, spoke of the reason for the bell ringing, the importance of the Constitution and the 52 word Preamble. Promptly at 1 pm, those gathered there rang bells for one minute, accompanied for the first time by the bells in the historic Mission bell tower.
