Chapter Chatter: San Fernando Valley Chapter – Service to America

On Monday, November 2, 2020, a few members of San Fernando Valley Chapter, and the District VIII VA Deputy met at Vice Regent Gayle Worley’s home, along with a few members of the local Bradley-Hanson MOWW (Military Order of the World Wars) Chapter, under the leadership of Commander Dave Worley.

The first station was the table where Linda O’Brian, Don Jose de Ortega Chapter, along with San Fernando Valley Chapter members Susan Dawson and Linda Mustion, stapled MOWW business cards onto the 700 Operation Gratitude letters, and folded them to fit the package size. After about two hours, we had finished the letters project and were treated to lunch.

The assembly table volunteers included Vice Regent Gayle Worley, San
Fernando Valley Chapter. We joined the assembly line volunteers and began stuffing the packages with products provided by Operation Gratitude. After three hours we all happily cheered as the last package was closed and boxed.

Operation Gratitude liaison, Sargent Robert Donovan, and Commander Worley directed the volunteers as together 770 care packages were filled and prepared for distribution near or on Veterans Day. Packages will be distributed by the MOWW Companions to the VA-Sepulveda, VA-Long Beach, VA-West LA, Meals-on-Wheels West LA, American Legion Post 288 La Crescenta, VFW Post 3834 San Fernando, and Bradley-Hanson Chapter, MOWW.

Our Service to America hours spent together with the MOWW veterans warmed our hearts as a new camaraderie was formed. We look forward to sharing other service opportunities with them.
