Chapter Chatter: Nothing Rained on Gold Trail’s Parade

Gold Trail Chapter, Roseville, marched in the Roseville City 4th of July Parade. There were sixteen Daughters, three HODARS, two cars, and a volunteer who owned and drove one of the cars in the parade. Every Gold Trail participant arrived in the early morning ready to work, wearing colonial costumes, Gold Trail collars, or patriotic garb.

We had two cars to be in the parade, so while waiting for the parade to start we prepared for the parade by decorating one of the cars, picking up bags of American flags, candy, DAR brochures, and of course, a lot of socializing.

When the parade started, we all felt the surge of energy of excitement coming from our own as well as the other groups of parade participants. As we slowly moved through the town street we were enveloped by the patriotism as we finally met with the spectators. The Daughters and one award winning HODAR handed out American flags, and candy to the many adorable children and their proud parents.

When the parade was over, we realized that we had handed out 1,000 American flags and 13 lbs. of candy, and a whole lot of “happy 4th of July” shouts and enjoyed so many sweet children waving their flags at us. What a wonderful day.

By the way, the award winning HODAR won the “Spirit of the Day Award” for his enthusiasm, great smile, and a spring in his steps.
