Chapter Chatter: Lest We Forget – John Greenleaf Whittier Chapter DAR Honored for Participation in America 250

On July 4, 2026, the United States will mark its 250th anniversary and DAR is getting ready to celebrate. As descendants of the generation that secured our independence, the DAR members can help our fellow Americans explore their family histories and the role their ancestors played in founding the nation and guiding its progress through the generations.

On May 19, 2021, the JGW Chapter met at Michigan Park in Whittier, our Chapter members have been asked to share the biographies of their patriots at a meeting or in our newsletter.

At our meeting, Arlene Wright, Constitution Chair, shared the history of Regent Diana Arnold’s patriot, John Dowling, who enlisted at the age of sixteen, in South Carolina’s 1st Regiment. So far, ten members have shared their stories. Arlene presented four members with red poppy pins bearing the motto “Lest We Forget.”
