karen-reese-douglas-westfall-julie-tibbets-12-3-16On behalf of the Katuktu Chapter, regent Karen Reese and historian Julie Tibbets were honored to present the prestigious DAR History Award Medal to Douglas Westfall – notable author, publisher and educator – at the chapter’s December 3, 2016 meeting held at the Tustin Ranch Golf Club.  While Julie carefully pinned Doublas Westfall with the engraved medal, the Regent presented him with the certificate from Historian General Virginia Hudson Trader.

The Historian General noted that “It was clear that he (Douglas Westfall) contributed to the greater understanding of American History specifically through publications such as “Prisoners of the Civil War: The Story of Two Americans”, and “The Taking of Saipan: Two Sides to Every Battle in WWII”, where the first person account sources of historical events greatly reflect the meaning behind this award.”

This nomination, assembled by the chapter historian, included the applicant’s information, a biographical sketch, three letters of recommendation, and five examples of his work along with scholarly reviews.  These original published books ranged in topics from the Civil War, WWII, Amelia Earhart, Emily Dickinson and Corona Del Mar.
