Chapter Chatter: Gold Trail Daughters are Loved by Vets at House J- Yountville

In 2012, Gold Trail Chapter adopted 50 men at Johnson House, Yountville Veterans Home. Members decided to celebrate six to seven events with them throughout the year. Recently, one of the residents at Yountville wrote the following words of appreciation:

THE TRUE WORTH OF LOVE…
James Duffy

When the Vets from Section ‘J’ (Johnson Hall) get word that the DAR is coming for a visit – there is a ‘stir’ that it is going to be a ‘fine’ day for the ‘Hall’.

Yes, we see tables and chairs being set up in the ‘day room’ and on the patio – table clothes placed on tables, chairs being wiped down and ‘reminders’ place on all resident’s doors –

And then it HAPPENS!!!!

Cars are pulling up and around the hall…
Ladies (and sometimes their husbands) start climbing out
With tray, bowls, plates of food…
AND the best of all – their smiles and caring for all that live at the ‘hall’ (and yes – a few special people that are lucky enough to be included in these great ‘moments’ of sharing of food and love),

It is just not the great food they bring (it’s also their LOVE and COMPASSION they have for the Johnson Hall Veterans).

Throughout these events you can see these wonderful ladies milling around talking with the ‘J’ vets. They are ‘getting’ the Vets to ‘open up’ and share their experiences, their values, along with their hopes for the future….

I truly believe these wonderful acts of love are –

THE TRUE CALLING OF THE GOLD TRAIL CHAPTER OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION!!!
