Chapter Chatter: Fresno-Yosemite Daughters “Ditty Bags” for Fresno VA Hospital

Our Fresno-Yosemite Daughters have long provided our Veterans at the Fresno Veterans Administration Hospital with a special Holiday treat, a “ditty bag” full of tasty snacks, blank Christmas cards to send, a warm throw blanket, and of course a whimsical cork reindeer ornament!

Several Daughters and HODARs were hosted by Mike and Corky Peterson to assemble the snacks, outdoors and with masks; the event was well organized and efficient! A team of ladies kept the table stocked with treats, while others filled large ziplock bags with the goodies. The HODARs managed filling and moving the boxes shown below, which were transported to the VA hospital by John and Patty Cline. The boxes will be stored and the “ditty bags” later distributed to our Veterans after any possibility of virus transmission has lapsed.

A highlight of the afternoon occurred when Regent Sally Tripp presented Corky Peterson with a National Society Daughters of the American Revolution certificate from the Volunteer Genealogist Committee for Outstanding Service, GEP Workshop! Congratulations to Corky!

Special thanks to all who participated! Sally Tripp, Corky and Mike Peterson, Krohn Hansen, Patty and John Cline, Diane and Jim Durando, Deb and Steve Moe, Dar and Marty Joneson, Cheryl Bird, Sue Loucks, Susan Bartell, Holly Marquez, June Barnett, prospective member Cecelia Dorian and Becky Malmo.
