The El Toyon Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution honored 13 area students as Good Citizens on February 4 at the Central United Methodist Church in Stockton. Each student chosen as the Good Citizen of their high school received a Good Citizen pin, certificate, wallet recognition card and a Flag Code book.
These students went on to compete in a scholarship contest which assigns points for high school and community activities, transcripts, public service, work record, future plans, letters of reference, and good citizen qualities along with essays they wrote by themselves without resources within a monitored 2 hour time frame. This year’s topic was Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It. The focus question: Of our American rights and freedoms, which one would you choose to celebrate and why? First place winner was Aiko Jones, East Union High, Manteca; Raquel Haro, Second place winner Lathrop High, Lathrop and Third place winner Claire Canestrino of Tokay High, Lodi.
