Chapter Chatter: El Redondo Chapter Celebrates Constitution Week and the 100th Anniversary of the Women’s Suffrage Movement

The El Redondo chapter Daughters gathered outside at “the bell” at St. Francis Episcopal Church on the Palos Verdes Peninsula before the start of their meeting for their annual Constitution Week ceremony. The brief ceremony was culminated with the ringing of the bell thirteen times by Regent Pat Hussain.

The Daughters, wearing white in support of Women’s Suffrage to be discussed in the program, then returned to the meeting room which was decorated with a large purple, white and yellow flag of the suffrage movement, as well as photos of the activists and future DAR founders Mary Lockwood and Alice Paul. Several members had also brought late 19th/early 20th century family photos that were displayed. Each lady was also adorned in a white sash urging the Women’s Vote. Past Regent Fran Bock then discussed the history of the Suffrage Movement.

As if the above two activities weren’t fulfilling enough, the chapter was excited to witness the swearing in of six new members!
