Chapter Chatter: El Palo Alto Chapter 2014 Year in Review

eL PALO aLTO CollageEl Palo Alto Chapter had a busy year in 2014.  We nominated and installed our new board.  We helped to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Star Spangle Banner with Dr. George Norbeck presenting the history of the song followed by him singing to the membership.  We ended the celebration with an American Flag cake that was red, white and blue in every slice.  To celebrate Constitution week, we had members sign in using a quill pen, every one received a chocolate candy shaped like a liberty bell and a bookmark with the preamble to the Constitution.  We all participated in a quiz on the Bill of rights and our speaker discussed the role of the Supreme Court in interpreting the Constitution.  As a Chapter we partner with the Department of Defense to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.  A few of the board members made the trip to Glendora to see the beautiful State Headquarters decorated for Christmas.  Finally, our Chapter donated 186 stocking stuffed with toiletries and other goodies for patients at the Veterans Hospital and a number of members participated at the Veterans Hospital Christmas Craft Faire to help patients make gifts for friends and family. In addition to all of our DAR activities, our members have volunteered almost 700 hours to community service!
