Chapter Chatter: Don Jose de Ortega Chapter Hosts Book Fair at Barnes & Noble

The Don Jose de Ortega Chapter held its second book fair at the Calabasas Barnes & Noble store during this Presidents’ Day weekend.  Chapter ladies participated in the store on February 18-19 to hand out our special code to shoppers and to discuss DAR in general and the various ways the chapter participates in the community. Participation stickers were given to children, the books “I am George Washington” and “I am Abraham Lincoln” were read to children each day and a special coloring table was available with patriotic coloring selections.  There were many shoppers who were happy to support our organization by presenting the voucher code at the cash register.  Members had a great time and the chapter will benefit from the donation by Barnes & Noble.

The Barnes & Noble stores provide this great fundraising opportunity to non-profits such as the DAR, giving 10% or more depending on total sales for the time period of the event.  Proceeds from this event are earmarked to buy books for several local schools which participate in the DAR essay contests or use materials provided during Constitution Week.
