Chapter Chatter: Arrowhead Valley Chapter Honors Real Daughters

On July 2, 2019, Arrowhead Valley Chapter DAR members gathered at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery to recognize the contributions to history of Real Daughters of the American Revolution, Mrs. Laura Baker Strong and Mrs. Malvina Jerusha Chapin Rowell.  Daughters were joined by Tom Atchley from Redlands Area Historical Society, Don McCue and Dr. Nathan Gonzalez from A.K. Smiley Public Library.  City of Redlands Mayor Paul W. Foster brought greetings.

Chapter Regent, Patricia Westerfield, spoke of DAR’s commitment to historic preservation and of its desire to honor these national treasurers.  With a backdrop of ten Revolutionary War flags, Historic Preservation Committee Co-Chairman Patricia Westerfield and Diane McCalmon, together with Project Chairman, Joanne Morse, revealed the recently restored headstones of Mrs. Strong and Mrs. Rowell.  Each marker displays the symbol of Real Daughters of the American Revolution.

Following the ceremony, Marines Semper Fi #1 Memorial Honor Detail retired the Colors.  Bagpiper Bill Megenney played as attendees visited the graves.
