Chapter Chatter: Anne Loucks Chapter Honors a DAR Distinguished Citizen

William “Bill” Ridle was honored in March as a DAR Distinguished Citizen. Bill was nominated for his lifelong service to the community. He has served in many capacities: a Vietnam Veteran, awarded two Purple Hearts; a police officer and detective; a volunteer with the Disabled American Veterans and a member of VFW. In addition, he’s worked on local Stand Downs as kitchen manager for the 5-day event and he began the Antioch Rivertown Veterans Lions Club.

In his service with the Lions Club International, he headed up the project that is closest to his heart: Matteo’s Dream, a playground for children of all abilities. It was a five-year undertaking: he raised funds, applied for permits, gathered volunteers who could construct, paint, and install the equipment, mats, fences, and all sundry items. On site Bill was the construction manager. The playground is a model for other all-abilities playgrounds around the nation.

Bill was named the Veteran of the Year for 2020-2021 in Antioch, CA. He is taking on the position of Location Coordinator for Wreaths Across America in 2022.

Our communities are enriched by this man who tirelessly serves in many capacities. For these reasons, Anne Loucks Chapter was proud to present Bill Ridle with the DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal.
