National Defense Committee Announces New Medals

The new Distinguished Citizen medal is presented to an individual, 18 years of age or older, who fulfills the qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership and patriotism.  This medal may be awarded to emergency first responders, active duty military and veterans of the US Armed Forces, and to citizens who have contributed to the defense and/or security of the community, state or nation in an exceptional manner.  The state chair of the National Defense Committee administers the medal.  The DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal should be worn on the right (non-Insignia) side when worn by a NSDAR member.

The new Silver DAR Outstanding Cadet Medal is awarded to a student for participation in a non-ROTC, military-affiliated cadet program such as Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Civil Air Patrol Cadets Corps, National Defense Cadet Corps, US Army Cadet Corps, Young Marines, California Wing Cadet Corps and Navy League Cadet Corps. (One medal per year per cadet unit.) Medals are worn in accordance with the cadet program protocol.
