State Regent’s Message – February 2014

Dear California Daughters,

Spring will be here soon, even though we here in California have had some wonderful spring-like temperatures this winter!  While researching a Native American topic on the internet, I came across a Paiute Indian late winter song. It truly expresses the doldrums of the end of winter and the wish for spring to arrive:

Loud are the thunder drums in the tents of the mountains.
Oh, long, long have we eaten chia seeds and dried deer’s flesh of the summer killing.
We are tired of our huts and the smoky smell of our clothing.
We are sick with the desire for the sun and the grass on the mountain.

In the San Joaquin Valley, home of the state regent, we can tell spring is coming because all of the bee boxes are starting to collect in open fields.  In February, our famous “Blossom Trail” will open as hundreds of acres of almonds begin blooming. For more information and beautiful photos, go to

Spring also marks the coming of the California State Conference.  This officer is getting pretty excited about the conference, and she is looking forward to being with everyone as we participate in the annual meeting of the corporation, and have some fun, too!  Hope to see you there!

Bee Inspired and Take Flight!

Debbie
