California Pouch Cottage Update – April 2014

Good Morning Everyone,

In like a lion and out like a lamb!  The month of March has been very busy and exciting. We welcomed the 2nd Annual BBQ & Bluegrass Concert here on campus. The show was held in the Georgia Talmadge Auditorium and raised over $4200 for the Tamassee DAR School Children’s Fund.  What a wonderful evening it was with the great food, the bluegrass bands and good friends.

Then came the Tennessee State Society Fine Dining Event.  What a wonderful time for the children.  The excitement of watching incoming Thrift Store donations for the perfect gown, jewelry, shoes, shirts, ties, and sometime tuxedos.  The dinner and dance that were part of the event provided the children with the opportunity to put their good manners into practice and what a joy it was to watch.

The Georgia Talmadge Auditorium was filled with the children for the Barter Theatre performance of “Little House on the Prairie.”  This group of young actors from Virginia take live theatre experiences to children in rural areas to help broaden their cultural awareness. We are very pleased and excited for this opportunity for the children. After the performance, the actors will join the children for dinner in the Dining Hall where a question and answer period will be provided for youngsters who would like to explore their dreams of being on stage.

The month winded down as March 21-23 was the South Carolina C.A.R. State Conference being held here on campus.  Tamassee DAR School children will be joining the members of the S.C. C.A.R. for a pizza party-game night and a formal dinner/dance on Saturday evening.

We hope you enjoyed the month of March and plan to join us on May 18, 19  for the 2014 Awards Day celebration.
