Chapter Chatter: The Sun Shines on Del Norte Chapter Backyard Meeting with Newly Elected Officers

On June 20, 2020, Norte Chapter Regent Cori Higgings, led Del Norte Chapter’s first meeting of the Chapter year in the beautiful backyard of Marlene Young, hostess and newly elected Vice Regent. There was  plenty of room for “social distancing” and after a number of ZOOM “virtual” meetings during the spring, the in-person meeting was most welcome and enjoyed. It was a great way to kick off the new Chapter year with the new slate of officers.

Members attended from Crescent City, Gasquet, Ft. Jones with others from Crescent City and Volcano, participating by “Face Time.” An enthusiastic majority of  the membership was present to begin the new Chapter year, and hear the plans and hopes of the new administration. Regent Cori Higgins affirmed that the Chapter will continue the on-going Historic  Preservation project of monument/headstone cleaning and restoration; the improvement of the cemetery; work and support of veterans, locally and nationally; the awarding of scholarships; promoting  Constitution Week and much more.

Sunshine, fresh air, warmth with a cool ocean breeze, and sharing friendship with face to face conversation in our DAR group was greatly refreshing and encouraging.  Truly a breath of fresh air. Drawing for a patriotic wreath capped off the meeting. Refreshments were enjoyed as the Daughters shared the day, finishing with a photo-op.

The day brought home to each of us, our DAR motto: “GOD, HOME and COUNTRY.”
