Chapter Chatter: Our One Hundred year old Memorial – San Fernando Valley Chapter

The San Fernando Valley Chapter is celebrating our founding members from 100 years ago. They placed a monument on June 14th, 1920, Flag Day, in support of those who went to serve in The Great War. This memorial was to honor family members and local residents who volunteered to serve our nation.

We will be celebrating a bit differently than originally planned; our chapter wanted to honor the VFW and the Park where they have set up three memorials. We say thank you to the folks that brought these monuments together: The World War I, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. These monuments honor those that served from the San Fernando Valley.

We will gather at the wonderful little VFW Memorial Park that honors all the men and women from the San Fernando Valley who have served our nation. This is Flag Week, so we have placed flags along the sidewalks and at the memorials themselves. We will give thanks and celebrate our Founders, who inspired us to serve our community.

Our chapter throughout the years has served veterans, collected needed items, from clothing, to personal items and kitchen goods. Members have served and helped at the VA centers, planted trees and all types of help from being a listening ear to singing Christmas carols. We feel by helping the Veterans, we are honoring our Founders and their support for Veterans.

Later this year, we will have a celebration where we can come together and say thanks!’
