Chapter Chatter: Del Norte Promotes “Vietnam War Veterans Day” Proclamations

“The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017” was signed into law by President Donald Trump in 2017. Within that law, is the “VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY,” March 29th of each year, described as a day to fly the flag, and to honor and recognize the service of Vietnam War Veterans. Many citizens are unaware that the law declared an official VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY.

In attempting to raise community awareness of VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY, Del Norte Chapter contacted the City Council of Crescent City and the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors, proposing each governing body adopt a Proclamation recognizing Vietnam War Veterans Day, March 29th of each year, with the community to fly the flag in honor and remembrance of Vietnam War Veterans.

Ultimately, both the City Council and the Board of Supervisors adopted PROCLAMATIONS with that wording. During that time the Governor ordered “social distancing,” and only one DAUGHTER was asked to be physically present to receive the City Council’s Proclamation. A few days later, the Board of Supervisors read their Proclamation into the record, during their “virtual” meeting, where no public was allowed to be physically present, due to the Governor’s order during the COVID19 crisis.

March 29, 2020, Del Norte County and Crescent City officially recognized VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY by flying the flag proudly in honor of Vietnam veterans, remembering the sacrifice and service of our troops and particularly the 13 young Del Norte men who fell on the battlefields of Vietnam. Lest we forget….
