Chapter Chatter: Santa Rosa Chapter Collects Children Books for Head Start Program

For the past five years, the Santa Rosa Chapter collects children’s books at their annual Holiday Luncheon in December and donates these books to local charities and organizations that offer services/support focusing on children. This year, Santa Rosa Chapter’s Literacy Promotion Committee, under the leadership of Lou Thompson, gave 40 beautiful books geared towards ages prenatal to 5 years to Head Start. Head Start is a non-profit organization aimed at helping low income families throughout Sonoma County.

On December 17, 2018, the books were delivered by Literacy Promotion Chair, Lou Thompson,  and Regent Kari Young. They were received with a gracious and warm reception from the Family Services Manager of Head Start, Christine Slaymaker. Christine shared the work Head Start does and the different ways the books will be used including being added to their program libraries and available for parents to choose one at their parent meetings. They were very thrilled with the selection of books received from the Santa Rosa Chapter.

On a fun note, it was discovered that Christine’s aunt was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and there was much excitement about the possibilities for Christine to join, too!
