Chapter Chatter: Sierra Amador’s Historic Preservation Committee’s World War I Submissions

Sierra Amador’s newest committee, Historic Preservation, is up and running!  Inspired by the US WWI Centennial Commission, the committee has: submitted three stories of ancestor service in WWI; mapped, photoed and submitted the Sutter Creek WWI memorial to the US WWI Memorial Register; and submitted a 100 Cities/100 Memorials grant proposal to honor WWI veterans interred in the Jackson Pioneer Cemetery.  The grant proposal includes (1) restoring a local WWI veteran grave site, (2) finding and mapping all WWI veteran graves, and (3) holding a Centennial Celebration to honor all local WW Veterans in November 2018.  In response to the grant application, two founding members of the committee were interviewed about their WWI Commemoration plans. The live Centennial News podcast can be heard free on iTunes or Google Play by searching WW1 Centennial News and listen to the August 18, 2017 podcast.
