On September 5-6, 2014, the Northern Council of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a meeting at the Walnut Creek Marriott Hotel celebrating the 200th anniversary of the ‘Star Spangled Banner”.  Over 250 members attended the event.

Five members of the Golden Nugget Chapter of Paradise, California were in attendance dressed in our handmade period dresses.  Our costumes of red, white and blue with stars and stripes well represented the theme of the celebration.

As we were heading to our evening event, a member of a band that was playing in the open lounge in the hotel lobby asked about the reason for our costumes.  We explained about the 200th anniversary celebration of the writing of the ‘Star Spangled Banner” and how the Daughters of the American Revolution honored our flag and country.  The band offered to play and sing the “Star Spangled Banner” and everyone there joined in.  What really made it even more special was the American flag right outside the window blowing in the breeze!
