California Pouch Cottage Alignment

Good Afternoon,

For many of our children, summer at Tamassee DAR School provides new experiences and opportunities that they may not ordinarily have had the chance to enjoy. Through the efforts of our extensive base of friends, volunteers, individuals and supporters the children will enjoy boat outings, picnics with outdoor games, craft-making, specialty camps, classes in theatre and independent living skills and much, much more. The coming days, weeks and months will provide opportunities for the children to grow in their understanding of themselves and to build pleasant summer memories that will remain as “happy places” in their minds for years to come.

The first full week of June will find Tamassee DAR School Staff involved in the Camp Soar project. This opportunity is being provided in collaboration with the Department of Social Services and involves children living in foster care homes in community settings. The selected students will spend three days living on Tamassee DAR School campus participating in activities that are designed to guide youth towards a better understanding and acceptance of the grief and loss in their lives. In addition, students will establish healthy coping skills to help them turn their losses into strengths and move towards a positive future.

Later in the month, two of our high school students (Grace and Jamison) will spend a week in Washington D.C. attending Continental Congress. These two young adults will meet and greet DAR members from all over the world while representing past, present and future children who will come to know Tamassee DAR School as their home.   Please stop by our table and greet them when you get a chance.  Also, spend some time shopping for your souvenirs and provide support for the Children’s Fund through your purchases.

Thank you for a great 2013 – 2014 school year and for the positive influence you brought to the lives of the children.

Have a safe summer filled with warm and wonderful memories!
