VIS Update: November 2013

VIRUS WARNING!

A new virus circulating in the Internet World that can be very harmful to your computer is called CryptoLocker. CryptoLocker is a “ransomware”
program that will encrypt certain files on your computer. When it has finished encrypting your files, it will display a CryptoLocker payment program that prompts you to send a ransom of either $100 or $300 in order to decrypt the files. This screen will also display a timer stating that you have 96 hours, or 4 days, to pay the ransom or it will delete your encryption key and you will not have any way to decrypt your files. Do not send any payments as it is just a scam to get money from you. Kind of like that friend of yours that went to Thailand and forgot to tell you…

CHAPTER WEBSITES AND THE STATE SERVER

California has updated over 50 chapter websites since July 2012, with another 30 in varying stages of development and approval. Pretty impressive work, Ladies! Thank you for all your efforts. Additionally, all but four of the 114 CA chapters are now enjoying free website hosting, compliments of the State Society.

Early next year, all CA-approved websites, hosted on the state server, will be given the opportunity to have a secure members-only chapter website of their own. So start thinking now about what you would want to put on that secure, password-protected site. More info to follow.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.
