Women of the Revolution Celebrated

Standing: Sue Stehle, Lesley Clifton, Wanda Prosser, Sharon Moore, Rae Castro, Jane Zoch. Seated: Jacquie Berzins, and Allen Prosser

The Santa Margarita Chapter hosted Jane Zoch, a member of the Letitia Coxe Shelby Chapter, as she brought her original program “Women of the American Revolution,” to life at a chapter meeting. Opening with a song “Johnny Has Gone For a Soldier” by Mark O’Connor, Jenny (Jacquie Berzins) found a letter in her knitting basket from her husband Harry. While Jenny read it silently, Harry (Allen Prosser) read it aloud. Jane then went on to weave a story of some of the women and what they did to aid in the war. Taking the part of some of these women were Wanda Prosser as poet Hannah Griffiths, Lesley Clifton as Charity Clarke, Sharon Moore as Temperance Avery (her ancestor), Rae Castro as Margaret Corbin and Sue Stehle as Abigail Adams. It was a wonderful reminder of how much women did to further the cause for American independence.
