Panamint Springs Chapter Supports Local Veteran’s Standdown

Minnie Miller, Chapter Librarian, Colleen Murphy, Chapter Chaplain, and Lola Brinkmeier. Standing is Pat Richard, Regent.

In preparation to support the first annual Veteran’s Stand Down this month, held in the city of Ridgecrest, Panamint Springs Chapter collected various toiletry items to fill comfort kits which were distributed to the male and female veterans. Also donated, were hand-knitted caps made by one of our prospective members.  We are proud of member Rosalie Barber, who participated in the planning meetings for the Stand Down and volunteered many hours to this all-day event. Other chapter members volunteered their time in manning our table during the day while distributing the comfort kits and representing Panamint Springs Chapter by answering questions about our wonderful organization. Donations from local businesses, individuals, and groups provided the 105 local veterans who attended with free services. These services included, donated clothing, raffle prizes, coffee and donuts, free lunch on site,  and coupons for free meals at McDonalds. Various groups offered information on health care, educational opportunities, rehabilitation, senior services, community services, recovery programs, veteran’s programs, and blood pressure checks. A hair stylist also gave free haircuts. Organizers and volunteers felt this event was very successful and plan to sponsor the Stand Down in Ridgecrest next year.
