Support our DAR Library

The DAR Library in Washington, DC, is an impressive location with an expansive collection used by Daughters, and also open to the general public. It contains over 150,000 volumes on two floors. The library was founded in 1896 for the use of staff genealogists in verifying application papers for the Society.

But, did you know that the library has a wish list of items, including many relating to California, that would enhance and increase the collection?

The current wish list of California items includes:

• Marriage License Affidavits, 1861-1921, Sonoma Co., CA Volumes 1, 2, 3 and 4
• Place Names of Humboldt Co., CA 1542-2009
• The Golden State in the Civil War
• Index to Vital Data in Local Newspapers of Sonoma Co., CA Volume 10

In addition, the library is requesting funds for serial publications from the following societies:

• California Historical Society
• Humboldt County Historical Society
• Marin County Genealogical Society
• Paradise Genealogical Society
• Sacramento German Genealogical Society
• Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society
• Tuolumne County Genealogical Society

As you prepare your chapter budgets, consider allocating funds, or plan a fundraiser to purchase items for the library. Items purchased can count for credit on both the Chapter Achievement and the Master Questionnaire forms.

This officer urges California Daughters to support our National library by fulfilling the library’s “Wish List!”
