California State Regent Report

By Karon Jarrard, State Regent 2010-2012, 121st Continental Congress, June 27 – July 1, 2012

Madam President General, I report with pride the accomplishments of nearly 9,500 California Daughters. Holding the California flag is Outstanding Junior, Sarah Bentley.

  • California Daughters “Enhanced the Present” by sponsoring a lay light in support of the President General’s Project.
  • A DAR marker commemorating 100 years of naval aviation and San Diego as the birthplace of naval flight was dedicated. This magnificent blue granite monument is prominently placed in Centennial Park in historic Coronado, home of North Island. For years to come those pausing to read the marker will know the island’s history.
  • California Daughters embraced this State Regent’s genealogical Bible records project and preserved 8,460 pages of pre-WWII Bible records. Using GRC Committee guidelines, every name is indexed and available to researchers in our Library. Twenty-four bound volumes have been placed in the Fresno County Library. We challenge all states to preserve these precious one-of-a-kind records. The reward is those ah-ha moments when researchers connect generations.
  • Membership is key to success. California and New York have had fun with the East vs. West coast membership challenge. Both are winners, but California is the Coast with the Most with a two-year net membership gain of 5.7%.  The New York State Regent looks beautiful in her LA Dodger cap!

Madam President General, thank you for your leadership. It has been an honor to represent California Daughters these past two years.
